We live in a fishbowl. We are the foreigners, everything we do is watched by more folks than you probably realize. How can a 1.8m foreigner go unnoticed in a crowded sauna?
Walk a mile in my shoes before you are so quick to flame. Darn right I'm mad and darn right I'm not going to quit until I have answers. I am not responsible for what others are saying on the blogs, only for my own words. You want to nitpic great, join my legal team.
We live in a country where most men have blackbelts. My son never made it past purple. Am I saying he was attacked by a black belt? no I'm not, I'm only pointing out we live in a society where a good many folks have hand to hand combat skills. And no, one on one, I dont think my son could have held his own. He truely was a gentle giant.
Folks want to focus on the drowning Fantastic... put your collective logic to good use.
How does a guy with 3 years of swimming lessons, 4 years of 4-H camp (3-4 weeks each summer where kids learn basic water/sports/camping safety) who's watched his mom go for her PADI, was waiting/learning to get his own PADI, who has snorkeled several times, who's been around water all his life, drown in 40 cm of water in a room full of people with no evidence of an accident or health problems?
If the police are saying no evidence of accident, and no evidence of health problems, and the police say they have no witness to pursue murder (and this is without clarifing details to support why they made that statement) and are actively considering 'foul play' why are YOU (*the flamer*) freaked out about considering foul play?
Maybe it's a disturbing thought that any one of us in isolation could be a victim of either "bystander syndrome", "cultural differences" or plain old fashioned foul play and then our fates will be dependant upon the "spin" woven out by police, EMT, our bosses and the few people willing to claim first hand knowledge.
Think about the world you live in... how many people are around you right now who would stand up & say "HEY this 'spin' about my friend/lover/relative/co-worker is bogus and I demand the truth?"
Look around... really who've you got in Korea who's got your back? Ever think we (progressively social people) should be sticking together to try to find the truth (which is all I'm after) rather than creating further divisions?
I've been accused of creating divisions between the foreigner community & Koreans... hey you can't blame a 900 year old tradition on me.
Every year thousands of foreigner come here & try to assimulate into society. From registering cellphones to getting basic tax/pension information to just trying to get along in the neighborhood; foreigners are fighting an uphill battle.
It is well documented that Koreans' are proud of, defensive about, and resilent to their hermit/secretive culture. Koreans traditionally prepetuate these social, economic and legalistic divisions... how reactive to progressive change is korea? hmmm??How much effort is put forth to get along by Koreans in general? How about foreigners, those who last more than a year or two really bend over backwards and you know it. I'm not creating divisions, I'm only asking questions about the ones that already exist.
I think this will be my last blog response to flamers for sometime. Frankly, I shouldn't be wasting my energy on this as my main concern is finding justice for my son. You guys can sit back & armchair this all you want. I'm going to work on finding answers because I am the type of friend/lover/relative/co-worker you'd want in your corner when the chips are down & the tides against you. May what you send out return to you quickly.
